Computer and Electronic Technicians build, install, test, analyze, repair and maintain computers and electronic equipment such as cash registers, high-speed printers, automotive electronics, and manufacturing equipment.
Computer Repair Specialization students learn specific skills associated with computer troubleshooting and repair.

Certification

  • MECC helps prepare students for various certifications within the computer and electronic technology fields.
  • Certification may provide job seekers a competitive hiring advantage and greater advancement opportunities. Examples of certifications:
    • The Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) offers the A+ certification.
    • The Electronics Technicians Association International (ETA-i) CET exam.

Employers want Computer and Electronic Technicians who:

  • Enjoy building and repairing things.
  • Have manual dexterity and are detail oriented.
  • Have excellent communication and people skills.

Employment Outlook:

  • Projections indicate a significant demand for computer and electronic technicians.
  • Industries that employ electronic technicians include communications, computer systems and networks, avionics, biomedical, instrumentation, and consumer electronics.

Salary

Entry-level salaries range from $19,100-$30,780. Higher salaries can be expected based on
experience.

Jay Grubb, Jr. Jay Grubb, Jr., a former student of MECC’s Computer and Electronic Technology Program, is the technician at the FAA Radar Site in Black Mountain, KY.

Each electronic technology student has a personal workstation where he or she learns electronic fundamentals.
MECC students work with ProtoMat, a circuit board prototyping machine.
MECC builds its Computer and Electronics curriculum on the fundamentals of elecommunications, computers, controls, and instrumentation.
