Administrative Support Technologists perform office and administrative duties which require expertise in office procedures, computer applications, word processing, desktop publishing, telephone techniques, and records management.
Medical Office Specialist students in the AST program may choose to concentrate their studies in the medical field. They perform duties utilizing specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic or laboratory procedures.

Get Started with a Certificate

Individuals may begin their training in one-year Clerical Assistant certificate programs.

The AST program prepares students for:
  • Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)
  • Certified Professional Secretary (CPS)
  • Certified Administrative Professional (CAP)

Internships

MECC Administrative Support Technology students gain on-site training through internships with local employers. Internships can lead to great employment opportunities.

Employers want AST graduates who:

  • Enjoy the office environment and have the ability to perform a variety of office tasks
  • Are proficient in microcomputer applications
  • Have excellent communication/interpersonal skills
  • Have excellent decision-making and critical thinking skills
  • Exhibit team work and team-building skills

Salary

Entry-level salaries range from $18,000- $29,000. Salaries with experience range from $24,920 to $38,370.

Update Skills

Individuals currently working in the field may update their skills with an Office Automation Specialist Career Studies Certificate.

Salary

Entry-level salaries begin at $20,000 and go higher depending upon the area of the country, level of education, and length of time in the accounting profession.
