About Our Programs
The Associate in Arts & Sciences Degree programs of study are designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree program, usually the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree. You are urged to acquaint yourself with the requirements of the major department in the institution to which transfer is being considered and to work closely with faculty advisors and counselors in planning an appropriate program.

The Associate in Arts & Sciences Degree also prepares you to enter pre-professional programs in the areas of Dentistry, Law, Medical Technology, Medicine, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, and Radiologic Technology.

Special Considerations
Entry into the programs requires the satisfactory completion of four (4) units of high school English, two (2) units of high school algebra, one (1) unit of geometry, one (1) unit of laboratory science, and one (1) unit of social science or their equivalent. Deficiencies in these areas may be corrected by completing the appropriate developmental studies courses. You are encouraged to check the mathematics requirements of the four-year college or university to which you plan to transfer to determine the appropriate courses to be taken at MECC. In addition, you should contact the appropriate four-year institution to determine the transferability of electives. Students planning to become teachers should check the requirements of Teacher Education programs at fouryear institutions.

The Division of Student Services publishes and updates regularly the College Transfer Guide, which is a tool to guide transferring students in the selection of elective courses. This guide contains information on course equivalencies for the majority of institutions to which MECC students transfer. Advisors can assist students with course selection, including transfer electives, for schools not listed in the guide on a case by case basis.
