MECC invites community to participate in presidential search

Mountain Empire Community College is inviting members of the community to participate in the selection of its next president.  Dr. Terrance Suarez has announced that he will retire in June 2010, having served as president of MECC since January, 2002.

Dr. Glenn DuBois, Chancellor of the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), met with MECC’s faculty, staff and Local Board members recently to outline the presidential search process.
DuBois encouraged the Local Board, led by Chairman Dan Roop, to involve faculty, staff, students and the community in identifying the challenges facing the college and the desirable presidential characteristics to lead the college forward.

MECC is soliciting input through a four-question survey.  The survey is available at http://www.mecc.edu/presidentialsurvey/.  The college asks that surveys be completed by October 7th.
The VCCS will use the results of the survey to conduct a nationwide search for presidential candidates.  Following a screening of applicants, three to five candidates will visit the college and its service region, and participate in interviews conducted by committees representing all constitutents.

Following the interviews, DuBois will meet with the Local Board to hear their recommendation for the individual who will become the sixth president of Mountain Empire Community College.
