Appalachian Express Chorus to perform on October 15 for MECC Scholarship
Mountain Empire Community College’s Foundation will host a special dinner and concert on Thursday, October 15 at the Scott County Career and Technical Center.
Beginning at 6:30 pm, this event will benefit the Ambassador Scholarship to assist Scott County students attending Mountain Empire Community College.
Ambassador Scholarships are service-learning scholarships created at MECC to provide grant assistance for students to meet the direct costs of attending college, as well as compensation for the students’ service in the community. Currently, Ambassador Scholars are serving as reading tutors in local elementary schools for children in grades K-3.
The Appalachian Express is part of the Northeast Tennessee Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, and has been directed by Tony Bowman since 1982. The men who comprise this singing group come from all areas of the greater Tri-Cities, and their talents have allowed the chorus to become one of the most respected singing organizations in the region.
At the October 15th event, attendees will enjoy a buffet dinner with coffee and dessert available throughout the evening as you enjoy a concert by Appalachian Express Chorus. Tickets for the event are $30 and may be obtained by calling Jeri Bledsoe in the MECC Foundation office at (276) 523-2400, extension 287.
Gifts to the Ambassador Scholarship Fund for Scott County students are fully tax-deductible. Anyone wishing to contribute to the scholarship should make the check payable to MECC Foundation and earmark it Scott County Ambassador Scholarship. Mail the check to MECC Foundation, 3441 Mountain Empire Road, Big Stone Gap, Virginia 24219.

The Appalachian Express will provide barbershop harmony at their October 15 performance at the Scott County Career and Technical Center to raise funds for the MECC Ambassador Scholarship. |
