Accelerated HELPDESK training begins May 26
Free tuition, fees, and books are available for Virginia residents entering MECC’s newest IT training program.
The Business & Information Technology Division will begin an Accelerated Help Desk Support program on May 26 to help meet the growing needs of local employers such as Northrop Grumman, CGI and others, coming off the success of the College’s Software Development Fast Track program.
Funding for tuition, books and exam fees is available for a limited number of individuals with Virginia residency.
The growth of IT companies in this area has created an increased demand for individuals who are trained to support the day-to-day use of computer systems and networks.
Employment prospects in the technical support or help desk environment are best for those who possess the latest technological skills. Individuals who acquire certification within the Microsoft Office or Windows environment add to their employability skills by demonstrating a level of competence that exceeds basic technical knowledge.
Individuals completing this course of study will be eligible to sit for both the Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician certification (MCDST) and CompTIA A+ certification exams.
The MECC Accelerated Help Desk program is a 24 credit program with courses in Advanced Computer Literacy, Client Operating Systems, Windows Server 2003 or Unix I, Database Fundamentals or Desktop Database Software, Introduction to Network Concepts, Security Awareness for Managers, Personal Computer Hardware & Troubleshooting, and User Support/Help Desk Principles or MCDST Certification Prep.
To learn more about this program and opportunities for tuition assistance, contact Vickie Ratliff, Dean of Business & IT, at (276) 523-7462 or vratliff@me.vccs.edu.
