International Photography Exhibition at MECC’s Slemp Gallery

A wide range of photography can be seen right now on the campus of Mountain Empire Community College. The work is part of the Slemp Gallery show, The International Photography Exhibition. It includes everything from photos of landscapes to studio work pictures, from extremely personal photography to examples of digitally manipulated images.

A variety of artists contributed work to the show. Ages range from 17 to 70, with both professional photographers and advanced amateurs participating. Males and females are almost equally represented.

Maybe most notable about the exhibit is that the photographers featured are literally from around the world. The photographers hail from Australia, Belgium, Germany, Finland, France, Italy, New Zealand, Scotland, and Sweden. The United States is also well-represented with artists from Florida, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington contributing at least one photo to the show.

Printmaker Tim Burns, who exhibited a one-person show at MECC approximately three years ago, coordinated the current exhibition in the Slemp Gallery. “I believe that (through this show) students can see what is current in photography,” says Burns. “There are a good range of ideas present. There is a large amount of manipulation, events-stuff, studio-stuff, landscapes, and a more personalized study of subjects.”

Burns believes that the exhibit not only offers a varied range of photography to view, but also displays a wide range of emotions. “The emotions are right from the heart. People will react to that.”

The International Photography Exhibition will be on display at MECC until October 19. The Slemp Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. It is located in the Wampler Library of Robb Hall.

Rhode Island photographer Michelle Aramante’s work, “Deliverance #1,” is featured in The International Photography Exhibition at Mountain Empire Community College’s Slemp Gallery. The show will be on display until October 19.

Visitors to Mountain Empire Community College’s Slemp Gallery may view “Venice in 3 days, 1” by German photographer Monika Wolf. Wolf’s piece is one of the many photos featured in The International Photography Exhibition. The show, with both international and American contributors, will be on display at the college until October 19.
