Winners Announced in MECC/LRMC - Wellmont Golf Classic

In a field of 20 teams, and with a score of 52, the Powell Valley News Team placed first in Division A of the Mountain Empire Community College/Lee Regional Medical Center - Wellmont Golf Classic, held at Cedar Hill Country Club on August 3. The tournament was held in memory of Shannon Evans, beloved golf pro at Cedar Hill for 30 years.

Members of the winning team in Division A were Tim Lock, Graham Clouse, Hagan Hensley, and Brett Clouse. Placing first in Division B was the team from Lake Bonaventure Country Club with a score of 55. Players for that team included Joe Reed, Blake Whitenack, Denny King, and Tom Wise.

The Litton Family Medicine team with Chris Tabor, Eric Satterfield, Nathan Cope, and Chelsea Cluesman received second place in Division A, while the team from Westgate Mini Mall, including Ben Sergent, Don Green, Larry Hill, and James Bowling, placed third in Division A.

Second place in Division B was the Lee Regional Medical Center team of Kyle Chadwell, Larry Parsons, Earl Johnston, and Jeff Austin. The team from Lee Bank and Trust Company placed third in this division with players Lewis Oatts, Johnny Myers, Cranston Bellamy, and Brandon Myers.

Tim Lock won the Closest to the Flag prize, and Ben Sergent won the prize for Most Accurate Drive. Randall Copas won both the Putting and the Chipping Contests.

Proceeds from the tournament will provide scholarships for MECC students, and will be awarded in memory of Evans. The MECC Foundation is still accepting donations to the scholarship fund. For information on how you can give, contact the Foundation office at (276) 523-7466.
