Mountain Empire Community Theatre to Perform I Hate
Hamlet
Like a well-oiled machine, the Mountain Empire
Community Theatre (MECT) continues to produce plays for local audiences.
Up next for the group is Paul Rudnick’s I Hate Hamlet, a contemporary
adult comedy for all who love the bard. Performances will be held
on May 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, and 27 in Fugate Auditorium on the MECC
campus. Friday and Saturday shows will take place at 8 p.m., while
Sunday performances will begin at 7 p.m.
General admission tickets to see I Hate Hamlet
are $5. Students and faculty from local colleges and universities
may purchase $3 tickets by showing school IDs. For every ticket
sold, $1 will be donated to P.A.W.S., Southwest Virginia’s
animal welfare organization. A dessert bar with a variety of beverages
will be available pre-show and during intermission.
The MECT is also holding auditions for the upcoming
production, Cumberland Vendetta by John Fox, Jr. The group is calling
for actors, actresses, musicians, sound technicians, lighting technicians,
stage hands, and more. No experience is needed.
Auditions will be held on May 12 and May 20 from
12 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Fugate Auditorium, located in MECC’s
Dalton-Cantrell Hall. Individuals who cannot attend one of these
dates may contact the MECT to schedule an audition date.
