Community Theatre Stages A Doll’s House in Fugate Auditorium

Henrik Ibsen’s classic 19th century humanist drama, A Doll’s House, will be performed at Mountain Empire Community College on April 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29 in Fugate Auditorium. The Mountain Empire Community Theatre (MECT) will present the beloved play, which examines the traditional roles of men and women in a Victorian marriage, and features a wife who experiences a personal awakening by the end of the story. On the evenings of April 21, 27, and 28, performances will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday shows on April 22 and April 29 will be held at 7 p.m.

The MECT gives members an opportunity to act or help produce family productions for community enjoyment. It consists of actors, as well as individuals who help with sets, lighting, and sound systems. The Theatre is open to anyone and no prior experience is required.

“Anyone who wants to participate will not be turned away,” states Joel Bailey, creator of the MECT and Developmental English and Speech Professor at the college. Interested individuals may audition for parts, as well as help in other areas such as directing, set construction, lighting and sound, and ticket sales.

General admission tickets to see performances of A Doll’s House are $5. Students and faculty from local colleges and universities may purchase $3 tickets by showing school IDs. For reservation information, contact Bailey at (276) 523-2400, extension 221 or email the MECT at mectheatre@email.com.
