MECC’s SGA Presents Free Blues Concert
In celebration of Black History Month, the Mountain Empire Community College Student Government Association (SGA) will present K. J. James in concert on Thursday, February 22 at noon. The concert, offered free and open to the community, will take place in the Goodloe Center of Phillips-Taylor Hall.
James is one of the most beloved entertainers on the blues scene today. He grew up in a thriving first-generation blues community in rural South Carolina. For the fatherless boy of 12 who worked construction to support his family, “the blues” were more than a passing interest - they represented a way of life.
Today, James is one of the country’s most celebrated bluesmen, including four consecutive Campus Entertainer of the Year nominations, seven National Association for Campus Activities Regional Showcase appearances, and national acclaim for his contribution to the internationally recognized “Salt City Blues” project. He is well-known for his “footstompin” blues style.
For more information about this special event at MECC, contact SGA Advisor Kyle Scanlan at (276) 523-2400 or kscanlan@me.vccs.edu.

Celebrated bluesman K.J. James will perform at Mountain Empire Community College on February 22 at noon. The concert is free and open to the public, and will take place in the Goodloe Center on campus.
