Upcoming MECC Workshops Designed to Enhance Office Skills
Coming to Mountain Empire Community College in February, March, and April are a series of four seminars geared toward on-the-job professionals in the area, as well as those who are currently pursuing a career in an office environment. These workshops, held in the Goodloe Center on campus, are designed to enhance the skills required for office professionals. Each will be loaded with practical tips and useful advice.
All of the upcoming seminars will take place on a Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. By attending all four seminars, participants may earn a total of two credits. One credit will be earned by attending both seminars within office professional series I (AST 195-X1) and another credit by attending the seminars within office professional series II (AST 295-X1).
On February 9, the college will host the first seminar, FUNdamentals of Success, in office professional series I. It will focus on how to manage the day-to-day issues of the office professional. Topics include stress management, customer service, interpersonal skills, time management, and office ethics.
The second seminar of the series, Oops! Is My Attitude Showing?, will be held on March 9, and will demonstrate how to get a point across while maintaining a professional attitude. Topics include effective and powerful communication skills, tact and self-control in difficult situations, active listening skills, and the “you” attitude.
For the office professional series II, The Road to Success – Which Exit Do I Take? Seminar will take place on April 13. The workshop will update participants’ skills with the latest office tools. Lifelong learning and technology updates, including voice recognition and Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access, will be discussed.
On April 27, the fourth and final seminar, Are You Prepared? Entering the “Real” World, will be offered. It will focus on professional resumes and letters of applications, interview skills, and dressing for success with business attire, makeup, hair, and accessories.
For more information about any of the office professional series’ workshops, contact Ann Davis at (276) 523-7462 or adavis@me.vccs.edu.
