Guaranteed Interview with CGI-AMS after Completing MECC Training Program

A new “fast-track” training program at Mountain Empire Community College will enable students to work as computer programmers for software development companies after completion.  Even more appealing is that this training program, beginning in January 2007, will make it possible for students to stay in the area and work locally if they choose.

CGI-AMS, which recently located to Lebanon, Virginia, has guaranteed an interview for all students who complete MECC’s new Software Development Fast-Track.  The training program is geared toward individuals who demonstrate an interest in technology and business, have strong problem-solving abilities, excellent organizational skills, and meet the requirements for admission into the training program.

All Software Development Fast-Track courses will be offered online and can be completed in just nine months, although training will be rigorous.  Requirements for admission include previous completion of a degree, either two-year or four-year in any discipline, or related work experience and excellent computer skills.  Full scholarships are available for qualified individuals.

The schedule of classes includes:  Java Programming I, offered January 5 through May 4; Unix I, January 5 through February 16; Web Design, February 19 through April 4; Oracle PL/SQL Programming, April 5 though May 15; C++ Programming I, May 21 through July 27; Java Programming II, May 16 through July 16; Client Side Scripting, May 21 through June 22; Server Side Scripting, June 25 through July 27; C++ Programming II, August 6 though September 28; and Project Integration, August 6 through September 28.

Students may earn three credits for each of these courses, with the exception of Project Integration which will be worth five credits.  Individuals interested in Software Development Fast-Track should attend an information session at MECC on November 20.  The session will begin at 6 p.m. and will be held in the Goodloe Center of Phillips-Taylor Hall.
