MECC Foundation Event Raises Funds for Ambassador Scholarship
The Mountain Empire Community College Foundation
is planning a special event on Thursday, September 14 at the Scott
County Career and Technical Center at 6:30 p.m. The event will raise
funds for an endowed Ambassador Scholarship to assist Scott County
students attending MECC.
Ambassador Scholarships are service-learning scholarships
created at MECC to provide grant assistance that helps students
meet the direct costs of attending college, as well as compensation
for the students’ service in the community. Currently, Ambassador
Scholars are serving as reading tutors in local elementary schools
for children in grades kindergarten through third. The scholarship
will be fully endowed when the fund reaches the $25,000 goal.
At the event, attendees will enjoy a delicious buffet
dinner from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., which Culinary Arts students at the
Scott County Career and Technical Center will prepare. Coffee and
luscious desserts will be available throughout the evening.
After dinner, individuals may dance or simply relax
and enjoy the “feet in the sand, frozen drink in the hand”
beach music of H. B. Beverly. His repertoire consists of all time
favorites, such as those of Jimmy Buffett, Jim Croce, and Jerry
Jeff Walker.
To purchase tickets, which are $30 per person, call
Jeri Bledsoe in the MECC Foundation office at (276) 523-2400, extension
287. Twenty dollars of the purchase price is tax-deductible.
Gifts to the Ambassador Scholarship for Scott
County students are fully tax-deductible. Anyone wishing to contribute
to the scholarship should make the check payable to MECC Foundation
and earmark it Scott County Ambassador Scholarship. Mail the check
to MECC Foundation, 3441 Mountain Empire Road, Big Stone Gap, Virginia
24219.
