Upcoming Auditions for Community Theater’s Production of The Dining Room

Mountain Empire Community College’s Community Theater will be conducting auditions for the fall production of A.R. Gurney’s The Dining Room on Tuesday, September 5. The auditions will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Goodloe Center, located in Phillips-Taylor Hall on campus.

The theater group is open to anyone in the community. No prior theater experience is required. Not only are members needed for the cast, but individuals interested in technical aspects of theater, ticket sales, and marketing are also encouraged to participate.

Mountain Empire’s Community Theatre was begun in 2005 by Dr. Joel Bailey, Professor of Developmental English and Speech, to give members of the community an opportunity to act or help produce family productions for the public to enjoy. Prior productions include The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds and You Can’t Take It with You.

“Our group has individuals aged 16 to 60, from high school students to retired coal miners,” says Bailey. “We have had a well-represented cross section of our community.”
