Traditional Music Classes for Fall Semester at MECC

This fall, Mountain Empire Community College will offer a number of traditional music classes, some held on campus and others held at Gate City High School.  All of the music classes held at MECC will meet in Phillips-Taylor Hall.  Each course is worth three credit hours.

The following courses will be held at MECC beginning August 21:  Beginning Keyboarding-Piano (MUS 195-01) from 2:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., two Beginning Guitar courses - (MUS 195-02) from 3 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and (MUS 195-N4) from 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., Beginning Claw-Hammer Banjo (MUS 195-03) from 12 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., Advanced Claw-Hammer Banjo (MUS 195-04) from 12 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., and Beginning Dulcimer (MUS 195-N2) from 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.  All classes will be held in room 126 with the exception of Beginning Keyboarding-Piano, held in room 219, and Beginning Dulcimer, held in room 126. 

Also held at MECC, but beginning on August 22 are:  Beginning Upright Bass (MUS 195-N3) in room 123, Beginning Mandolin (MUS 195-NA) in room 123, Beginning Fiddle (MUS 195-NB) in room 219, and Shape Note Singing (MUS 195-N9) in room 118.  Each of these classes will take place from 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.  Beginning August 23 at the college is Lead Guitar (MUS 195-N1), which will also be held from 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., and take place in room 226.

On-campus traditional music classes beginning on August 24 are: Beginning Claw-Hammer Banjo (MUS 195-N5) in room 218, Advanced Claw-Hammer Banjo (MUS 195-N6) in room 218, Old Time String Band (MUS 195-N8) in room 219, Intro to American Ballads (MUS 195-N7) in room 126, and Ballads from Appalachia (ENG 195-N1) in room 126.  All of these courses will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

Classes held at Gate City High School include Beginning Fiddle (MUS 195-31) and Old Time Fiddle (MUS 195-32).  Both of these offerings will begin on August 21 and take place from 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.  August 22 will be the first class date of Beginning Guitar (195-33), also held from 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. in Gate City.
