PBL Members Win at State, Compete at National Conference

On June 24-27, Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) members from Mountain Empire Community College attended the 2006 National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.  After winning PBL competitions at the state level, students Mary Absher Courtney Adkins, Elisha Alexander, Melissa Renee Salyers, Amber Shupe, and Megan Sturgill competed in events while at the national conference.  The multimedia presentation team, made up of Absher, Shupe, and Sturgill, received seventh place in the competition.  PBL Adviser and Administrative Support Technology Professor Victoria Ratliff accompanied the group to Nashville.  

PBL is the national organization for all students in post-secondary schools and colleges enrolled in business, office, or teacher education programs in developing vocational competencies.  The organization serves as an integral part of the instructional program, and promotes a sense of civic and personal responsibility.

According to the PBL website, the National Leadership Conference concludes each year’s activities and sets the stage for the upcoming school year.  It is held every summer in a major American city.  PBL and Future Business Leaders of America members and advisers participate in business-related and leadership development workshops, tour business and corporate facilities, elect national officers, and participate in national competitive events.
