Fast Track Reviews Offered This Summer at MECC

The road to success can begin this summer with two math courses offered at Mountain Empire Community College.  Individuals may take Arithmetic Fast Track Review or Elementary Algebra Fast Track Review during the college's second short summer session.  These fast track courses allow qualified students to move through developmental courses more quickly.

Arithmetic Review is a 14-hour intensive review course.  The class is designed for students who have a COMPASS score of 20 or better in the Arithmetic section, have done well in math and need a quick review of basic concepts, and would like a fast-paced review of Arithmetic.  It is not intended for students who have struggled with math and need longer instructional time to master basic Arithmetic.

The course will be offered on June 26 through June 30 (MTH 2 FD, class #49833) from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on July 24 through July 28 (MTH 2 FE, class #49836) from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  Students who pass the final exam of Arithmetic Fast Track will be allowed to enroll in MTH 3, MTH 141, or MTH 105.

Elementary Algebra Review is a 27-hour intensive review course.  The class is designed for students who passed Algebra I in high school with a grade of "C" or better, placed into MTH 3 or higher on the COMPASS or ASSET test, have done well in math and need a quick review of Elementary Algebra, and would like a fast-paced review of it.  It is not intended for students who have struggled with math and need longer instructional time to master Elementary Algebra.

The course (MTH 3 FE, class #49843) will be offered on July 24 through August 4 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.  Students who pass the final exam of Elementary Algebra will be allowed to enroll in MTH 4 or MTH 6.

Students must have permission from one of the following MECC personnel to enroll in any of these fast-track classes:  Sylvia Brown, Yvonne Jessee, Carolyn Reynolds, Carolyn Helms, or Mary Phillips.  For more information, contact your advisor or call the MECC Arts and Sciences department at (276) 523-7460.
