Student Art Show Exhibited at MECC

Currently on display at Mountain Empire Community College is a show featuring pieces created entirely by students.  A variety of art is represented in the exhibit including work from students in courses such as Drawing I and II, 2-D Design, 3-D Design, and Painting.  The show will be on display in the Slemp Gallery at MECC until May 5.

Individuals featuring drawings in the exhibit are MECC students Justin Dean, Brandon Hamilton, Nathan Jones, Eric Lamberson, Tara Large, Candace Miller, Amanda Moore, Adam Mullins, Frances Mullins, and Kristen Phillips.  Hamilton also contributed a number of other pieces to the show including 3-D designs of a sculpture and autobiographical boxes, and examples of 2-D designs in a three-image narrative, a computerized drawing, a self portrait, and both monochromatic and polychromatic color schemes.  Phillips, along with April Kilgore, are displaying collages they created in their Drawing I class.

Student Brandon Mays submitted a 3-D design of a mask and 2-D designs of a three-image narrative and stencils, while 3-D Design students Kayla and Kristen Adams are featuring autobiographical boxes, boat forms, and masks.  Terry Wells is the lone painter featured in the show with his piece entitled "After 8 Years Will the Oder Go Away?"

Art professor Alice Harrington says plans are being made to show more student art at MECC throughout the summer.  The Slemp Gallery is located in the Wampler Library of Robb Hall. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Brandon Hamilton contributed this 2-D Design piece to the Student Show currently on exhibit in the Slemp Gallery at MECC.  The show will be displayed until May 5.

This drawing by Frances Mullins is just one of the examples of student art currently being shown in the Slemp Gallery at MECC.  The exhibit will be on display until May 5.
