PTK Inducts New Members at MECC

On March 28, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) at Mountain Empire Community College grew a bit larger with the induction of new members at a special ceremony held in Fugate Auditorium on campus.  PTK was established in 1918 as a national honor society for two-year colleges, and is part of the Alpha Delta Psi chapter at MECC.  The hallmarks of the society are service, leadership, and scholarship

At the induction ceremony, PTK members David Christian and Elaine Murphy presented a slideshow about pop culture, the current PTK honors topic.  After the presentation, inductees repeated an oath of membership and signed the PTK membership book.

New members who attended the ceremony were Elisha Marie Alexander, James Daniel Berry, Tina Louise Cupp, Landan Russell Goforth, Lisa Ann McFaddin, Shelia Jean Mellon, Vickie Lynn Muse, Amanda Gayle Short, Jennifer Lynn Stanley, Savannah Arin Thompson, and Cecil Earl Wells.  Other inductees are Sandra Enix Baroody, Misty Lynn Bledsoe, Jay F. Coleman, Jessica LeAnn Dorton, Kimberly Lynn Hall, Brandon Lee Hicks, Whitney Elizabeth Jessee, Kinsley Buchanan Lawson, Katherine Elizabeth Meade, Samuel Luke Mullins, Mariah Sue Redden, Melissa S. Rose, Amber Michelle Shaffer, Tammy L. Shepherd, and Amy Marie Swiney.

These members met all requirements of PTK which include enrolling in an associate degree program, completing at least 12 semester hours of college-level work with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, and enjoying full rights of citizenship.  An honorary membership was extended to Kyle Scanlan, MECC History Instructor and PTK's newest advisor at the college.

The PTK group at MECC will participate in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life in August.  They also plan to add Keep America Beautiful to their list of service projects for the upcoming year.
