Governor's School Set for June 12-30 at MECC
This summer's Mountain Empire Regional Governor's School will once again offer five very popular subject areas for students to explore. The annual three-week program on the campus of Mountain Empire Community College will be held from June 12 to June 30. It is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors by letter of invitation.
Students selected for the program will have the opportunity to earn eight college credits while studying one of the following subjects of their choice: Drama Theory and Performance, Creating a Small Business and Advertising, Forensic Science (CSI), Concepts and Applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Web Page Design, Flash and Fireworks.
Governor's School features a variety of hands-on activities with students spending time in the field, in labs, on tours, and in the classroom with MECC faculty members. The program is offered to students at no real cost. Tuition is fully paid for those students eligible for the in-state rate. Books, supplies, lunch, and bus transportation to main routes are also provided at no cost to participants.
Interested individuals should contact Karen Carter for application information at (276) 523-2400, extension 307 or kcarter@me.vccs.edu. Applications are available through each local school system's Gifted Coordinator, high school guidance counselors, or the MECC website at www.mecc.edu/programs/govsch. Applying early is recommended.
