Virginia Community College System Chooses SMARTHINKING
To Increase Student Success in Mathematics
The 23 colleges of the Virginia Community College System is offering math students
around-the-clock tutoring and academic support services provided by SMARTHINKING,
the nation's leading provider of online tutoring and academic assistance for
college students.
Typical Virginia Community College students are adults with family and career
responsibilities that make it difficult for them to get to campus to access
support services. "Our students need help that fits their busy schedules. Live,
online, 24/7 math assistance will help us increase student success, increase
student retention, save money, and increase revenue," says Dr. Toni Cleveland,
Vice Chancellor of Academic Services and Research. "Students are our customers,
and we're trying to meet their needs."

The online service will be available to students in math classes at all Virginia
community colleges, whether or not they are taking a course by distance learning.
Each student can receive up to 10 free hours of tutoring per semester in basic
math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus I and II.
Through the SMARTHINKING website, students may ask questions of trained,
qualified e-structors™ (tutors) by "dropping-in", submitting questions
for next day response, and pre-scheduling sessions. In addition, all interactions
are saved permitting on-demand - more - review and analysis by the student
