Robert Wrenn Elected 2003-04 Chair of State Board for Community
Colleges
Edward Fuhr to Serve as Vice Chair
Robert C. "Bobby" Wrenn, of Emporia, will serve as
chair of the State Board for Community Colleges for 2003-04.
Mr. Wrenn was elected unanimously today by the State Board during
its regular meeting. Edward J. Fuhr, of Richmond, was unanimously
elected vice chair.
Mr. Wrenn is a community college graduate and a veteran member
of the State Board for Community Colleges, serving as vice chair
this past year. He was first appointed to the State Board in
1991 by then Governor Douglas Wilder and was reappointed by Governor
George Allen in 1995. He previously served as chair in 1995-96.
In 2001, after a break in service from the State Board, Governor
James Gilmore appointed him to a new unexpired term.
Clerk of the Circuit Court of Greensville County for the past
32 years, Mr. Wrenn graduated with high honors from Southside
Virginia Community College and received his bachelor's
degree from Virginia State University. Mr. Wrenn has been an
active member of the Southside Virginia Community College Foundation,
and has served on that college's local board. Honored as
Outstanding Trustee for a ten-state region by the Association
of Community College Trustees, Mr. Wrenn currently serves on
the National Board of Association of Community College Trustees.
The Southside Virginia Community College Campus Without Walls
in Emporia was renamed the "Robert C. Wrenn Campus Without
Walls" in 1992.
Edward Fuhr, of Richmond, was appointed to the State Board for
Community Colleges by former Governor James Gilmore in November
2001. A partner in the law firm of Hunton & Williams, he
graduated from the University of Virginia and the University
of Chicago Law School with honors.
Mr. Fuhr has a substantial litigation practice with significant
trial experience in state and federal courts and before administrative
agencies across the United States. He has tried cases successfully
on behalf of numerous Fortune 500 companies. His practice focuses
on corporate governance issues, mergers and acquisitions, telecommunications,
and government relations, among other areas.
Mr. Fuhr has received the "Top 40 under 40" award
and is listed in Best Lawyers in America. He was named a Richmond
Top Lawyer by Richmond Magazine.
The new board leadership will take office at the July 2003 meeting
of the State Board for Community Colleges.
