Winners of Lonesome Pine short story and poetry contests announced


Winners of the annual Lonesome Pine Short Story and Poetry Contests in the middle school, high school, and adult categories were announced at the John Fox, Jr. Literary Festival held at Mountain Empire Community College on Wednesday.

Short Story winners were announced by Barbara Polly, President of Lonesome Pine Arts and Craft, Inc in the following categories: Adult 1st place - Glenn Gannaway of Big Stone Gap, 2nd place - Pamela Bates of Coeburn, and 3rd place Teresa Lynn Ward of Big Stone Gap. High School 1st place – David Meade of Pound, 2nd place Caitlin Stewart of Norton, and 3rd place Kayla Balthis of Pound. Middle School 1st place – Sierra Hall of Jonesville, 2nd place - Hannah McNew of Fort Blackmore, and 3rd place Keisha Holman of Jonesville.

Poetry winners were announced by Donna Stanley, Executive Director of the MECC Foundation, Inc in the following categories: Adult 1st place – Pamela Bates of Coeburn, 2nd place Stephanie Cassell of Norton, and a 3rd place tie for Lou Richards of Kingsport and Teresa Lynn Ward of Big Stone Gap. High School 1st place – Robert Grant Mullins of Norton, 2nd place - Jasmine Shoemaker of Dryden, and 3rd place Caitlin Stewart of Norton. Middle School 1st place – Lorraine Dresch of Big Stone Gap, 2nd place Laren Minton of Jonesville, and 3rd place Kerensa Perry of Saltville.

Winners of the 21st Annual Lonesome Pine Short Story Contest and the 4th Annual Lonesome Pine Poetry Contest, sponsored by Lonesome Pine Arts and Crafts, Inc., were announced at the 32nd Annual John Fox, Jr. Literary Festival held at Mountain Empire Community College.
