MECC hosts Ewabo Caribbean Trio for Black History Month
Music of the Caribbean will fill MECC’s Goodloe Center on February 21 at 12:15 as Mountain Empire Community College honors Black History Month.
The music group Ewabo puts emphasis on the steel drum, which was invented around the time of WWII and has its roots in Africa. The music of this instrument is called ‘pan’ in its native Trinidad and Tobago.
Ewabo has twice won the National Steelband Music Festival Championship, which has propelled them to prominence in international contemporary music. The musicians entertain and educate audiences on the varieties of Caribbean culture.
This event is open to the public and admission is free. For more information call 276-523-7472 or email pgibson@me.vccs.edu.
