Mountain Empire Community College

Facts and Figures: Fast Facts

MECC's historical ability to attract students was significant due to the declining population of its service region. In the past two decades, the local population has declined by 9 percent, compared to a 32 percent increase in the Commonwealth's population. In 2003-04, MECC had its largest annualized FTES decline of 8.9%, followed by a 1.7% decline in 2004-05. To obtain increased student growth for the long term, economic improvements will have to be the avenue to better paying, diversified jobs and population growth.
