CTSO Food Bank Challenge
Virginia's
Career and Technical Education Student Organization officers
are conducting a food drive that we hope will make a major
impact on food banks that are experiencing critically low
shortages because of the economy. Our challenge is not
just to chapters in Virginia. By spreading this challenge
to other states, we can effect change in food banks across
the entire country. Please conduct a food drive in your
community by December 30 and report the results to
Stephen Lippi, state vice president of community service,
on the form provided below. A flyer with details about
the project is also provided. Let's meet the challenge
and join other Virginia CTSOs in making a difference!

FCCLA chapters are encouraged to participate in "Dig
It" - the 2009-10 outreach project benefiting the Children's
Miracle Network. The project connects chapters to their
nearest CMN hospital and also encourages raising funds to
be donated as part of our national organization. This
project has received significant media attention and has two
teen celebrities serving as spokespersons: Simon Curtis
and Monti Montanez, who wrote a song just for this project
and performed it onstage during the 2009 FCCLA National
Leadership Conference in Nashville. A packet of information
(in a large red envelope) has been mailed to FCCLA chapters
from Cause Creative, the company coordinating this project.
The 2009-10 Virginia state officers challenge chapters in
our state to make a difference through participation in this
project. Let's make Virginia the top contributing state
for 2010!
For details
on the project, visit the national FCCLA Web site: www.fcclainc.org

| Colonial
Forge High School was recognized as the chapter making the
largest contribution to Feed the Children, which was the national
Outreach Project for 2007-08 and 2008-09. Page County
High School and James Wood High School were also recognized
for being in the "Top Fifteen" contributing chapters. As a
result of their efforts, and work done by over 50 other Virginia
chapters, the Virginia Association was named as
one of the Top Contributing States . Thank
you to Colonial Forge High, Page County High, James
Wood High and all the contributing chapters for making this
our most successful Outreach Project and for making a difference
in the lives of children and families.
Virginia FCCLA raised
enough funds to sponsor the distribution of one truck of food
and supplies to over 400 families in Virginia Beach during
our 2009 State Leadership & Recognition Conference.
Members from chapters across the state assisted in unloading
the truck and distributing the items to those in need.
To view photos of the truck distribution event and other scenes
from the 2009 state conference, click the State Leadership
& Recognition Conference button at the top of the page
and scroll down to the Flash Player slide show of the conference.
