2004 Contest Winners
Bonnie Aker - is an Earth Science teacher with the Wise County Public Schools. She studied photography at Virginia Intermont College and has taken several workshops, including the Ansel Adams workshop in Yosemite, California.
Jody Cussins - Jody is a native of Clintwood and is pursuing a degree in Computer Networking. He plans to start his own webpage design business here in southwest Virginia.
Barbara Dockery - is a past winner in the Explorations competition. In addition to her poetry and short stories, Barbara is a songwriter and singer.
E. Exum Griffin - is a distance-education student from Hadensville, Virginia. He is completing his Business Management degree and hope for a career in Management and Product Development.
Tonya Hale - Tonya is an administrative assistant for a non-profit organization. She completed MECC's Photography certificate program in 2002.
Patrick Hunter-Kilmer - Patrick is a relative newcomer to the southwest Virginia region after many years spent living in the suburbs of D.C. He is an Education major at MECC and hopes to teach elementary school.
Shelley Perry - No biography included.
Renee Roberts - No biography included.
Destiny Spears - is a student at MECC who hopes to attend UVA-Wise. She's undecided about her career plans.
Neka Wilson - Neka works in the MECC Community Relations office. Her work is very familiar to local photographers as she has won several awards, including past Explorations competitions.

Due to low numbers of submissions in other categories, only two categories of entries were judged.
PHOTOGRAPHY (Color and Black/White)
Morris Burchette - Owner of Burchette Photography in Norton, Virginia, Mr. Burchette is well known to area photographers and an experienced judge of local exhibitions.
POETRY
Jane Hicks - A teacher of gifted students in the Sullivan County, Tennessee school system, Jane is a widely published poet, with work appearing in many publications including Appalachian Journal, Wind, and Now and Then. She is equally well-known as a renowned quilter (or "fiber artist," as they're called today.)
