Project Director Pathways Out of Poverty Grant Mountain Empire Community College invites applications for the position of Project Director, a two-year, grant-funded, full-time position with benefits. Salary $52,314. The Project Director will provide administrative leadership for the achievement of the goals of a two-year “Pathways Out of Poverty” Department of Labor grant. The project integrates training and supportive services to help eligible program participants find economic self-sufficiency through education for employment in energy efficiency and renewable energy fields.
Minimum qualifications: bachelor’s degree in related field, proven organizational skills and the ability to work well under deadlines, excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as collaborative skills in working with diverse partners, previous experience using a computer for word processing and to develop spreadsheets, as well as for office management functions.
Preferred qualifications: master’s degree in related field (candidates with a degree in education, vocational education, industrial technology or related fields preferred), and prior professional experience in technical writing and grant management.
Duties include: facilitating planning, communication, and cooperation within the multi-agency Mountain Empire Alternative Energy Partnership (MEAEP) to carry out the objectives of the grant within the two-year project timeline, leading the fiscal and outcomes reporting for the grant, including the approval and reconciliation of expenditures, and submission of fiscal and outcome reports on a quarterly basis in accordance with the applicable state and federal regulations, leading the marketing of the program, recruitment of program participants, placement of program participants, and communication about the program to internal and external audiences, coordinating the activities of the Career Coaches, who will aid in the recruitment, retention and placement of program participants, leading the collection of program data and completion of evaluation activities included in the grant proposal and those specified by the funder, participating in grant-related meetings organized by the Department of Labor or MDC, Inc., the project grantee.

Sustainable Energy Technology Faculty Mountain Empire Community College invites applications for a 9 month faculty position in Sustainable Energy Technology, position number G0011. This position is funded by a two-year grant with renewal dependent upon program enrollment and funding Salary and rank are dependent upon qualifications and experience – Salary range $40,061-$63,897. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching courses in the areas of solar, wind, hydro, geothermal energy systems, fuel cells, and other sustainable energy at an associate degree level.
Duties may include day, evening, or weekend hours. The successful candidate will participate in general faculty functions related to the educational program and staff development activities. Responsibilities include industry outreach and curriculum/program development, among other non-instructional duties related to establishment and growth of an occupational program. This position reports to the Dean of Health Science and Industrial Technology.
Minimum qualifications: Associate’s degree in electronics or mechanical engineering technology with demonstrated competency in teaching field. Minimum of two years of industrial/professional employment experience in a relevant setting. Licensed or eligible to be licensed electrician in the State of Virginia. Experience installing photovoltaic/solar-thermal panels and/or geothermal heat pumps.
Preferred qualifications: Demonstrated high level of professional expertise on the basis of a bachelor’s degree or higher in discipline or closely related field from an accredited college or university, one year or more of successful experience teaching electricity and/or alternative energy at the college level, background in electromechanical systems or mechanical engineering/engineering technology, licensed plumber, licensed HVAC,, knowledge and ability to integrate computer technology in the classroom and be able to use such technology to offer curriculum and instruction through distance delivery modes as appropriate.
