Sponsored Part-Time Faculty Position in Nursing
Mountain Empire Community College invites applications for a sponsored, part-time faculty position in Nursing available July 1, 2008. Sponsorship is provided by Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital. The position is currently funded through June 30, 2009. Continuation of employment is dependent upon continued funding. Reappointment will be based on available funding, college enrollment, performance evaluation and institutional needs. The Virginia Appalachian Tricollege Nursing Program is a three-college consortium jointly operated by Virginia Highlands Community College in Abingdon, Southwest Virginia Community College in Richlands, and Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap. The Program is approved by the Virginia State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
Qualifications include: a master’s degree in Nursing or currently enrolled in a MSN program, two years recent, related, clinical experience, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Successful teaching experience at the community college level is preferred. Responsibilities include: teach Medical/Surgical Nursing, Obstetrics and Pediatric Nursing (pediatrics is integrated in the curriculum) in clinical and classroom, advise students on curriculum and career goals, develop and implement activities to promote nursing student success, integrate computers and other technology in courses and the curriculum, teach courses via distance learning media, serve on college/program and hospital committees as appointed, establish and assess student outcomes, participate in institutional effectiveness initiatives to include assessment and program reviews, participate in college, community and professional activities, pursue professional growth and development activities in his/her discipline(s), perform other such duties as may be deemed appropriate. Housekeeping Worker
Position number WA0006, part-time, 20 hours per week (variable hours as assigned by supervisor), $7.39 per hour. The ability to lift 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and spend extended periods of time standing, bending, and stooping is required. A valid driver’s license is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. The following qualifications are preferred: knowledge of cleaning methods, use of cleaning chemicals, and commercial cleaning. Duties include cleaning buildings and furnishings, emptying and transporting building waste, assisting with moves and set-ups, and the care and upkeep of assigned equipment.

Mountain Empire Community College, a member of
the Virginia Community College System, is located in rural southwestern
Virginia approximately 40 miles northwest of Kingsport, Tennessee,
on U.S. Highway 23. In its thirty-first year of operation, the College
currently enrolls approximately 4,800 credit students and 3,000 non-credit
students each year. The service region of approximately 100,000 population
