MECC-UVA’s College at Wise Guaranteed Admission Program (GAP)
Mountain Empire Community College and The University of Virginia’s College at Wise have entered into a guaranteed admission agreement to facilitate the transfer of students. The agreement provides certain benefits for students who:
- graduate from MECC with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0; and
- complete an associate in arts and sciences degree in one of the following areas: Business Administration; Education; General Studies; Liberal Arts; Science; and Education/Social Services Specialization.
Under the terms of the agreement, students:
- are guaranteed to be admitted to The University of Virginia’s College at Wise;
- will have between 60 and 62 course credits accepted by the University of Virginia’s College at Wise and applied to the attainment of the baccalaureate degree;
- will be given junior status at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
- will have met the College’s lower division general education requirements, except for six hours in a foreign language*;
- will not be required to submit high school transcripts or SAT/ACT scores; and
- will have the application fee waived.
Students wishing to transfer under the Guaranteed Admission Program agreement must attach a GAP form to their application for admission and have it signed by Carolyn Helms in Student Services, Holton Hall.
*The Guaranteed Admission Program agreement with The University of Virginia’s College at Wise does not apply to elementary education/special education majors. Students planning to major in these programs are strongly encouraged to consult with an advisor for information about specific courses required.
