Virginia Appalachian Tricollege Nursing Program
Southwest Virginia Community College
The Southwest Virginia Community College (SwVCC) campus of the Virginia Appalachian Tricollege Nursing Program is located on Route 460, approximately 8 miles west of Claypool Hill. Serving the counties of Tazewell, Buchanan, Russell and Dickenson (partial), the nursing program accepts 52 new students each fall semester.
Information about admission requirements and the admission procedure is available through the SwVCC college catalog or the SwVCC home page. Applications are available through the Admissions Office located in Tazewell Hall and must be submitted by January 15th of each year. During the month of February, applicants are notified of testing dates for the PSB Nursing Aptitude Exam.
Selection of students into the program is determined by criteria that includes GPA, completion of general education courses, LPN license, being on the previous year’s alternate list, and PSB Exam scores for academic aptitude and natural science aptitude.
