Virginia Appalachian Tricollege Nursing Program

Located at Big Stone Gap, Virginia in the picturesque Appalachian Mountains, the Mountain Empire Community College (MECC) campus of the Virginia Appalachian Tricollege Nursing Program (VATNP) accepts 52 new students each fall semester.

Applications are available through the Admissions Office and on the MECC web site. Applications must be submitted by March 1st of each year. Applicants will receive written notification via certified mail stating eligibility to take the PSB Nursing Aptitude Exam.
Selection of students into the program is determined by criteria that includes GPA, completion of general education courses, LPN license, being on the previous year’s alternate list, and PSB Exam scores for academic aptitude and natural science aptitude.
