Applying
for Educational Benefits:
Mountain Empire Community College programs are approved for
enrollment of qualified veterans, survivors, dependents,
and certain reservists.
- New students or new applicants should contact
the Veterans Affairs Officer to
apply for
benefits.
- Continuing students (those receiving benefits
the previous semester) should contact the Veterans
Affairs Officer to be recertified each semester.
- Returning students (those who previously
received benefits but have not attended the College
for a semester or more) should contact the Veterans
Affairs Officer to
restart benefits.

Advanced Pay
New students or those who have a break of more than a calendar month between
semesters are eligible to apply for Advanced Pay.
Eligibility
Mountain Empire Community College programs are approved for
enrollment of veterans, survivors and dependents under Title
38, U.S.C., and selected reservists under Title 10, U.S.C.
Prior active military members have a ten year period of
eligibility following their discharge from active duty.
Dependent children of Veterans with a 100% permanent service
connected disability have until their 26th birthday to complete
their education, while wives/widows have a ten year period.
Do you have a military service connected disability of 30%
or greater and have been out of active service less than
10 years? If so you may be eligible for educational benefits
under Chapter 31 (VOCREHAB), contact the VA VOCREHAB office
at 1-800-827-1000.
If you are a "NEW" veteran who is interested in attending our
school and would like further information that is specific to
your benefits, feel free to write us requesting a college catalog
and include your questions. Please provide your branch of service,
periods of active service, return mailing address, a contact
phone number and, when possible, an Internet email address.

If you entered active military service prior
to January 1, 1977 and served at least three years of active
service after July 1, 1985 OR you entered active military service
after July 1, 1985 and received an Honorable Discharge then
you may be eligible for the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB). If you
entered active military service AFTER January 1, 1977 and contributed
to VEAP you may be eligible under Chapter 32. [NOTE: A VEAP
eligible and still on active duty on October 9, 1996 AND did
have some contribution in your account maybe eligible to convert
to the MGIB ....... check with the Education Officer at your
military installation.] Members of the Selected Reserve and
National Guard, who have entered into a six year contract, may
be eligible under Chapter 1606 (nee 106).
