Services for Adult Re-entry Students: Financial Resources Available

Financial Aid
Most students are eligible for some type of financial aid to attend college. Financial Aid can assist students in determining if they are eligible. Eighty percent of students in either degree or certificate programs at MECC are receiving financial aid to assist them in attending college. More information.

Virginia Employment Commission Dislocated Worker Program
The Virginia Workforce Development Center, formerly known as the Virginia Employment Commission, offers financial assistance for job training for individuals who have been terminated or laid off from a job due to no fault of their own — permanent plant closures; and displaced homemakers. See if you qualify.

Veterans Affairs
Veterans may be eligible to return to school by using the GI Bill. Some veterans have found that after leaving the military, they need new skills to obtain a good job. More Information.

Trade Act
Several area plants have closed, and foreign countries are manufacturing the products. The Trade Act offers assistance to these laid-off workers to learn a new skill. This program is through the Virginia Workforce Development. More Information.
