Mediocre Samplings of Joseph Arwood
Hi!  As you may have suspected, my name is Joseph Arwood.  I'm a Senior at Rye Cove High School.  I live and work in Duffield, VA.  I enjoy writing, playing golf, listening to music (from swing to British hard rock and the full spectrum in between), reading (Vonnegut, Vasquez, Palahniuk, and the late Dr. H. S. Thompson), watching movies, playing percussion in Rye Cove's Band, and playing bass, fiddle, and trap set at home.  I intend to major in Psychology and Writing, with a minor in Music.

This web page is a result of my participation in the Creative Writing and Publishing strand in MECC's Governor's School, 2005.  Most of this writing was produced for the class, and my personal favorites are presented here.

Everyone in our class wrote their own Where I'm From poem based on the same template (it is the first poem in the poetry column).  We all produced a coming-of-age story (prose column [don't be surprised by the bad grammar and/or spelling, it's all for effect]), a list poem, a manmade object poem (last in poetry column), a natural object poem, a narrative poem, and a dramatic monologue.  I've also included one of my least favorite poems (middle in poetry column) that had me recognized by the International Library of Poetry with their monthly Editor's Choice award; as well as some of my favorite quotes (they don't make much sense out of context-- look into 'em), and an odd piece of artwork I designed and am actually fond of.

I hope you've enjoyed my page, and feel free to return, but don't forget to look into the rest of my class's work.  Goodbye!
